Hello!  My name is Bob Mead, and I own the Mead Taxidermy Studio in Yuma, AZ.  I began doing taxidermy work in Laredo, Texas, in 1988, and have been a part-time taxidermist since that time.  I have been a long-time member of the NTA and more recently the UTA, and have also been a member of the Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona state taxidermy associations.  I was a board member in New Mexico for several years, and have competed in state and national competitions since 1990.

I am a big advocate of being a member of my state taxidermy association, not only because there is such a wealth of knowledge and talent in the membership ranks, but because of the camaraderie one feels when being associated with like-minded artists.  I am basically self-taught, but the seminars and competitions at state and national shows have helped me improve my work dramatically over the years.  I am grateful that these organizations exist, and I support them wholeheartedly because of the important work they do.

I am originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, and grew up there and in Muscatine, Iowa until I joined the Marine Corps in 1983.  After my 4-year tour was completed, I returned to Utah for a year until being hired by the US Border Patrol in 1988.  I have always enjoyed being outdoors, and I was taught to hunt and fish by my dad at an early age.  Whether it was fly fishing the Provo River or hunting the Wasatch Mountains, my dad made sure my brother and I were proficient outdoorsmen, traits I hope to have instilled in my kids and grandkids.

My “real” job of being a Border Patrol Agent for the past 23 years has not allowed for the opportunity to do as much taxidermy work as I would like, but after my retirement in 2013 I have plans to continue taxidermy full-time.  Yuma is a great community with a very strong hunting and fishing culture, and I am looking forward to serving the sportsmen of this area in the years ahead.
